We are looking for a

Postdoctoral Researcher – European Union Politics (gn)

full-time (40 hours per week). The contracts shall commence as of 01 September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter and will be limited until 28 February 2029. The successful candidates will work with Professor Markus Jachtenfuchs. The position is part of a Research Group on “Reconfiguring Europe. Between Competence and Control” which is funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and the Swiss National Science Foundation. It is located within the coordination project which is the central hub of the Research Unit and works on building a competence-control theory of European integration and a joint dataset of the resources of the Union. The position is a unique opportunity for an ambitious postdoc working on European integration. The position will be in the Jacques Delors Centre together with the other Hertie positions in the Research Group.

• Work on a competence-control theory of European integration in close collaboration with the entire Research Unit and the Speaker of the group;
• Work on a dataset of the EU's resources in collaboration with several other projects in the Research Unit;
• Provide support for the joint activities of the Research Unit;
• Produce joint and individual publications on competence-control as well as on EU resources.

• Ph.D or equivalent in political science or a related discipline;
• Expertise in quantitative research;
• Interest in theory;
• Very good command of written and spoken English.
