Who are we?

The British Embassy in Berlin is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. The UK's Department for Business & Trade (DBT) in Germany is looking for a Senior Manager Industrial Cooperation Defence based at the British Embassy in Berlin to support key commercial opportunities.

Main purpose of job:

Working with the Team Lead, this role will offer a mix of project management, stakeholder management in both public and private sectors, research and analysis of industry trends, and advice to UK companies and other parts of UK Government.

You will help further British-German bilateral cooperation in practice, primarily assisting UK companies with winning business in Germany. You will conduct export promotion work in combination with market intelligence reporting and some investment promotion activities. You will support the development of a pipeline of opportunities and manage key contacts in both industry and government.

You will lead project management, customer relationship management, and events preparation, facilitating visits and meetings for senior diplomats and Government representatives. You will work with colleagues in the UK Government and also contribute to the wider work of the Embassy.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Managing key accounts of UK and German stakeholders in the defence and security sector, including a strong pipeline;
  • Providing support for key export and collaboration opportunities;
  • Researching and analysing market trends and regulatory developments to identify and pursue strategic commercial opportunities to contribute to DBT
  • Germany's sector-focused strategic planning;
  • Identifying market access barriers that may arise in the defence and security space, working with relevant colleagues in the DBT Germany team, the wider
  • Embassy team and UK government departments with an aim to resolving them;
  • Building networks within the sector in Germany and the UK;
  • Preparing events and other engagement activities to promote UK defence capabilities in Germany and deepen co-operation.

Profil

Our Ideal Candidates shows:

  • Full professional proficiency in German and English (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework);
  • A university degree;
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working in or with the defence industry;
  • Strong analytical and research skills;
  • Experienced in managing projects and/or running events, including the ability to run multiple projects at once;
  • A fast learning, self-starter who can demonstrate initiative and resilience;
  • Able to work independently and as part of a diverse team in an agile setting;.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to build strong relationships;
  • Ability to work under pressure under tight deadlines and juggle multiple priorities effectively;
  • Experience in one or more of the following: Business development, industry associations, relationship management.

Nice to have:

  • Interest/Experience in trade and export policy;
  • Experience working for or with government;
  • Experience working with customer relationship management (CRM) systems;
  • Experience preparing high-level business and/or government delegation visits;
  • Knowledge of the UK business and policy environment;
  • Creative thinking;
  • Strong intercultural skills;
  • Very good IT and data analysis skills, well-versed in MS Excel, PowerPoint.

Wir bieten

This is a full time, fixed-term 2 year contract with the possibility of a permanent contract subject to performance and funding. Salary € 67,080.- rising to a maximum of approx. € 75,351.- gross per annum after a qualifying period in addition to performance related pay (salary is not negotiable).

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check and security clearance. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation in Germany in order to apply.

Visa/work permit requirements:

Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Germany and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
